Why Pilates?
Pilates is referred to “as the art and science of human movement.”
• Pilates reduces pain
• Pilates improves self-awareness
• Pilates reduces stress and anxiety
• Pilates calms the mind
• Pilates lifts moods
• Pilates improves the way we move
• Pilates improves concentration, memory, and focus
• Pilates improves balance
• Pilates enhances creativity
• Pilates nurtures self-acceptance
Pilates involves mastery of mind, control, concentration, persistence, patience, breath, centering, precision, flexibility, flow of movement, posture and relaxation.
Today, many people from all walks of life, with varying health conditions do Pilates. Pilates draws upon research and findings in physiotherapy, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and ideas from movement therapies. It caters, therefore, for all abilities and levels and works with the individual and their current level and capabilities. Pilates is about understanding the body and increasing awareness of one’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body. It concentrates upon working in a neutral spine, neutral pelvis and neutral neck alignment maintaining the body’s natural curves. It establishes correct recruitment of muscles and addresses overworked muscles of the body.
